This is a very scary phrase. But it is important that we start here. No one comes to the Bible with a blank slate, including YOU.
Each of us is walking into this journey with feelings, opinions, questions, issues, and struggles.
Maybe you’ve tried to read the Bible for many years, but it never seemed to take.
Maybe you are reading it for the first time, and you are filled with excitement about what you will learn.
Maybe you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to read the Bible through this year, and this is part of that.
Everyone comes into this with their own unique perspective and experience. You see, I think we jump ahead, leaping over one important question that is a total game-changer for our relationship with the Bible.
What is the Bible, exactly?
Is it a book?
Is it a book of books?
Is it a repository of ancient knowledge?
Or, is it something that speaks today?
The Bible is one of those things so common in church that none of us stop to ask this simple question: What is it?
The answer to this question might not be what you think it is.
But rest assured, it’s a whole lot better.
This week, we are going to look at what the Bible says it is.
