How to Fall in Love with the Bible

Week 1: What is the Bible?

What we're learning about this week

The Bible isn’t what you think it is.
This is a very scary phrase. But it is important that we start here. No one comes to the Bible with a blank slate, including YOU.
Each of us is walking into this journey with feelings, opinions, questions, issues, and struggles.
  • Maybe you’ve tried to read the Bible for many years, but it never seemed to take.
  • Maybe you are reading it for the first time, and you are filled with excitement about what you will learn.
  • Maybe you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to read the Bible through this year, and this is part of that.
Everyone comes into this with their own unique perspective and experience. You see, I think we jump ahead, leaping over one important question that is a total game-changer for our relationship with the Bible.
What is the Bible, exactly?
  • Is it a book?
  • Is it a book of books?
  • Is it a repository of ancient knowledge?
  • Or, is it something that speaks today?
The Bible is one of those things so common in church that none of us stop to ask this simple question: What is it?
The answer to this question might not be what you think it is.
But rest assured, it’s a whole lot better.
This week, we are going to look at what the Bible says it is.
